About US
The Uganda Martyrs Society is a community-based organization that propagates the imprint of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda, and other holy men and women of African descent, in modern life, and for posterity.
Inspired by the virtue and valor of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda, we curate faith-enhancing projects and socially-emancipating activities that espouse noble, afro-centric values in the different sectors of the human experience.
We accomplish our goals through advocacy, educational, spiritual, cultural and community development programming, locally and globally.
Our signature program, is the (proposed) Shrine of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda and All Saints of African Descent, as part of our multi-purpose Center located in the Washington D.C. Metro area.
The establishment of this Shrine and Center was informally proposed in 2024, by the members of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Community of DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia). This was in commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s canonization of the twenty-two Catholic converts who had been martyred in 1885-1886, alongside other believers of Abrahamic faiths in Uganda.
Thus, the incorporation of the Society in April 2025, as a non-profit set for tax-exemption, to embark on the founding and building project in earnest. The proposed Shrine will be dedicated to our religious, spiritual and devotional programming, under the guidance of the local see. The other spaces of the Center will be used for social services, career development, educational, cultural and civic engagement activities, for our wholistic human development.
For regular programming, we rely on ethical income generation, membership dues, donations and grants.
